Need some help dyna owners!
Hello,
Ive been bouncing around the forums to help with my next purchase in a couple months. Been reading articles online, but they are all of no use. So I figured I get the straight facts from people I know own them.
Right now I ride a 2011 sportster 48. Im looking at the dyna wideglide 13' or streetglide 13'. I just rode both about an hour ago and cant seem to find what will fit my needs long term. I feel more comfortable on the wideglide (i'm only 140 pounds),but I would like to know how is taking a 300 to 400 mile trips on them. I do 90% local city driving other than 1 long ride a year.
Also I really want to keep this bike for a couple years. Do you guys/girls feel content in not wanting to "Upgrade" to a different bike?
I hear amazing things about people who have dynas and keep them for a long time.
Thanks for your help!
oh and my dealer has a 2013 used for $15,000 with 600 miles security and abs.it was on their rotating display inside the dealership....good deal?

I have a street bob, a buddy of mine has a fat bob. We both have no complaints. Any dyna is going to feel great, and if you're only taking short trips of 400 or so, you'll be fine with any choice. I have been 700 miles on mine in a day and felt very comfortable. Congrats on looking into a new bike!
IMO, if 90% of your riding is going to be local riding and short rides, seems like a Dyna would fit your needs better than the Street Glide. The WG is 100 lbs. lighter and can be fitted with detachable bags/detachable windshield if you choose to for your long trip once/year.
Have you considered other bikes from the Dyna line (Super Glide Custom, Fat Bob, Switchback, Street Bob)? If not, you should ride them all before you decide on the Wide Glide. While an awesome bike, the rake of the WG makes is more difficult to maneuver at slow speeds/city traffic than the other Dynas.
On the other hand, the Street Glide offers some things that may or may not be important to you...fairing, radio, permanent hard bags, better suspension, cruise, etc., so it depends on what you want to do with a bike long term.
You really can't go wrong with any model of Dyna. If you were going to be doing more longer trips, the Street Glide might suit your needs better, but by the type of riding you are describing the Dyna would suit you well and is very versatile.
Don't let anyone tell you different...a Dyna is a huge step up from a Sporty. I've had both & the Dyna is just a whole lot more bike in every aspect. If you're used to riding a 48, any Dyna is going to be way more comfortable, loads more torque, more stable @ highway speeds, etc. There really is no comparison.
The only reason you might ever decide to move from a Dyna to a touring bike like the Street Glide is if you start taking a lot of long trips. Otherwise, you will be happy for a long time.
I love my Dyna

Here are the different models of the newer dyna's
fat bob, probably the best handling, 103 motor
superglide custom, bling, bling and best bang for the buck
street bob, more blacked out
switchback, set up for touring or you can strip it down with the quick detach
My question is why do you only want a dyna for a couple years? If that is truly the case then buy a 5 year old one...priced right, you won't take a big hit when you get rid of it.
There are quite a few here that tour on a dyna...One guy I know did about 1700 miles in a week. When you buy new...most will want to do tage one which will run you about $1200 or so. I also did my suspension for about $850. The bike is very comfy and very powerful and I will keep mine forever. I have no intentions of "moving up"

Any Dyna is perfectly comfortable for touring honestly. As long as you are not 2up, that is where long hauls will get cramped and you might want to consider a bagger.

I think I miss phrased it. I would like to keep this bike for a long time not a couple years. I have never had much trouble deciding on the bike. I test road all the dynas earlier when my dealer got the 13's in. The wide glide felt just right for me. I just don't want the feeling of out growing it like I have the sportster. Sharkman73: I was talking about the streetglide. It rides nice but for how heavy it is compaired to my low weight build. it seems like I wouldn't feel like I have full control at all times. (I'v been riding now for 7 years.) Plus the price for a wideglide seems like a better price point for me vs the $20,000 streetglide.
I have a wide glide and love it. I had my boys here for the week and thay both could not believe how comfortable it was for them. I have no intentions of ever selling it. I ride two up most of the time and no complaints
