I agree with the others, if you are mainly doing local rides and commuting, I think the WG will be a choice that you are happy with. The long rake does take a little getting use to on tight turns, but after practicing for a little while you get the feel for it. I would suggest if you are going to do frequent highway riding at 70mph +, you invest in a windshield.
Based on your riding style and size I'd recommend the Wide Glide. I recently traded my Road King for a Wide Glide because I don't ride 2 up and wasn't using the Road King as a touring bike. I wanted a faster, lighter and more agile machine and the Wide Glide fit the bill and is still comfortable for the occasional overnight rides.
I ride 2up about 20-30 percent of the time on my superglide and we are both very comfy. Plenty of power. If you like your sporty but just want more comfort the dyna is for you. Have you tried the fat bob? Do you like bling or do you prefer the blacked out look?
Im 5'6" @ 145lb w/30 inseam, and I really like the Dyna line. I have put over 30,000 mi on my Sportsters since the summer of 07. I bought a 2012 Superglide in April and have logged 5600mi this season on it. The Sporty's are still my round towners.
Just one complaint "The Spoked Tubless Wheels" go with mags if you can. I have had to constantly tweak my spokes.
Have you tested a Switchback. I traded a 07 sportster in couple months ago on one and am extremely happy. Has quick detach bags and windshield and is good for long rides. Good luck on your choice.
It makes me more happy with my decision after hearing these good things. I have tried the switchback and it just didn't feel right to me. Their was no problem with the actual bike. Almost positive im gonna go for the wideglide. Plus the old owner of the one I looked at has black wheels instead of the laced (which I would have got anyways).
Hey man I have a fat bob and love the way it handles... Hopped on a wide glide and felt like I was a beginner... Everybody is different in their preferences and what their looking for in a bike. 400 miles isnt bad at all on a dyna unless like Apollo said ur riding 2 up then its a different story.... I'm sure Ull be fine on the wide glide and for the price difference you can afford a detathable fairing, windshield, bags etc. For those trips.... Congrats on looking into a new bike its an awesome feeling getting a new bike! Good luck with your decision!
