The switch back would be somewhat ideal for me as to what I'm looking for in my next bike, but the dreaded vibration issue turns me off a little bit. The used 13' wideglide my dealer has is nice and well equipped. At the same time I wont have any storage at all. So at least I have narrowed it down to two bikes Switchback and StreetGlide. The switchback is more in my price point im comfortable in. The streetglide I love, but the weight is something that seems like will be a pain in the long run for only doing long trips once a year.
the only issue i have on my wide glide is that i am only 5'9" and with the forwards i cant move my legs anywhere because im already stretched out almost all the way so on the longer rides i find myself moving my feet to the side case and ontop of my transmission housing to get comfortable for alittle while longer thats really the only down side i have found so far
I know it's only a speculation, but do you think Harley will work out the vibration issues on the switchback come next spring? That bike fits my needs but not spending 16k and it have bad issues.
Someone seems to have worked out a temp fix for the switchback. There is a thread on here that talks about it.
elemental13: im similar to you, but im 3" shorter. I got the reduced reach bracket kits for my fat bob and i made a WORLD of difference. for the freeway ibought a set of take off mid mount brackets that Im going to use as highway pegs (in the mid position with the forwards as controls). lol its easier for me to tuck my legs in the mid position for long highway rides than fight to keep em on the reduced reach forwards. just a thought.

300-400 mile days are a leisure day on our long trips. A lot of the credit goes to my HD Touring/Sundowner seats. I've done long trips on the Wide and the King; prefer long-tripping on my Wide Glide.
Hey OP, have you considered a Street Bob? It actually retails a bit under the Wide Glide but you can build some of it out from factory lets say if you wanted to move up to the 103" motor. The reason I ask is because for my personal riding style the Street Bob has a more comfortable sitting position. The wide Glide you kind of lean forward a bit which can kill the back on long rides. The Street Bob has a more upright ride & it is a bit cheaper if you are working with a budget. Wide Glide & Street Bob are great bikes & they are a good chunk sheaper than a Street Glide. Might want to give one a test ride and see what you think. If this has already been covered by someone here sorry, I don;t pay close attention...
Brother buy the Dyna. You cant go wrong... I love my Dyna Street Bob and like one of the other guys I'll keep mine as long as I can. Dynas are light weight and great for carving up the road. My dad has a bagger and there are pros and cons on both bikes. I do everything on my bike my father does on his. The sterio is nice but there are all kinds of sterios out there that will work on the Dyna. Not worth the extra money to me.
The dyna makes more sense to me. My goal is to wait until I can go 1 week without changing my mind on what bike I want. No matter what though im always at square one with dyna wideglide vs streetglide. Eventually something has to click in my mind. All I know is i'm not pulling the trigger until their is no doubt in my mind. 15-20K is a lot for me to drop on a bike when I just dropped 21K on a car 5 months ago.
Do what i did. Buy a three or four year old one, then spend the savings on engine, suspension, wheels, brakes, and anything else to get it just the way you want it. My FXLRI is an 04 and it took me about 5 years just to get it the way i want it. I can go out at night on it, ride it like a sport bike, and travel. They're my favorite and I've had softails, pro street, FXRs and electra glides. I really liked my FXR, too. Wished I hadn't sold it and that won't happen with this one.
