I hav the schematic for the '06 as a picture stored on my phone and I'm no where near a computer. PM me your email or phone number and I can email or send it to you via text.
I can tell you that the light green with violet is the serial data cable for the speedo and tach signal. I don't believe that the speedo you have will work. The way I understand it is that the computer uses the signal from the vss and then sends a signal to the gauges so they display vehicle speed and engine rpm. The same wire is used for the speedo and tach.
i would think speedo would still work but you would have to wire to vss . i bought a vss today from hd and they said most vss are the same just a common hail sensor that works off the 4th gear cog few exceptions on touring modals
The signal from the vss is interpreted by the computer, not the gauge. The serial data wire is the same for both the speedo and the tach. When I added a tach to my bike I simply spliced the wire going to the speedo for the tach signal. In a conventional speedo/tach the same signal wouldn't operate both gauges. This information is also used to operate the 6th gear indicator light on the newer models. There is no 6th gear sensor. The computer knows that in 6th gear the vehicle speed and engine rpm should be at certain values. When those values are achieved the 6th gear light is illuminated.
After having connected the red 12v and ground wires to the custom acc connector I'd first chick if the orange wire coming from the speedo delivers 5 volt (be careful not to cause a short!)

this is how i would do it , i would splice into the vss wiring under seat but remember you still need vss signal for idle on fi models so make sure to soilder splice and use heat shrink
Will give that a try this morning. I'm beginning to wonder if the previous owner snipped some wires to mod out his old Dakota. There is a three wire cable under the seat that was clipped so the light green is the only one connected- he cut the red/black. Why? Who knows. Will get those reconnected and test connection.
Seriously- thank you both for the help. Should have came here a long time ago.
