Difference? 06 and 07 street bob
D
differences; Engine in 06 is 88 cui, 07 is 96 cui. 06 is a 5 speed trans, 07 is a 6 speed trans. If you were to upgrade the 06 to 95 cui and 6 speed gear set. you would spend the 3500 difference. the 07 has a little more torq and if you hiway cruise, you will like the additional gear. I would go the 06 provided it would be discounted 5,000 or better.
The 96 motor is not worth the $3,500 price difference.
Go with the '06 and have a great time riding.

Last fall at dealer demo day, I rode a stock '07 Street Bob and a stage I '06 Wide Glide back to back. They seemed awfully close to me in regard to power. Itraded foran '07 FXDC that's coming in March and the dealer had 2 brand new '06 FDXI35's on the floor. He wanted to make me a "killer" deal on one of them, but as much as I like the 35, I wanted an '07.
For $3500, I'd take the '06.
If money matters anything, buy the 06 ;-)
I'm not a very agressive rider. I like to cruise. Especially in the sun. I can haul when I need to, it's a choice not a limitation
I've had ZERO problems with my 06 bob. In fact, it runs awesome, every time. It's comfortable (and will be more so when I get the forwards on it). It's a REAL head turner, actually. I get stared down just about everywhere I park. Someone ALWAYS asks me about the bike- ALWAYS.
That 88 makes plenty of power on it's own. I'm not out there to be fastest. (If I was, I'd hop onto a Honda RC51 and do 300k). I'm out there to enjoy the ride.
Would an 07 give me all of that? sure. Is it worth the extra $? Nah, I don't think so.
I love that it's an 06- that makes it special - the ONLY year with the 88 twin. I'm 'elite'.

Maybe plenty of power for you and that's fine but that's why I said "If you care about performance at all" get the 96.My 88 powered Bob is not only slower than most bikes I've owned it's slower than many cars I've driven. The only reason I haven't sold it and bought something else is because since the 96s came out I can't sell mine without losing 5K.
The thing about performance is that there are several ways to skin the cat. If you REALLY care about performance, you could argue that the 88 would be your choice. It'll rev better. For street use, in my opinion, the best performance is still a balance ofHP/Torque. The 88 is already a seriously torquey motor but lacks the ability to breathe and rev (lacks horsepower). So make it rev WORSE, but produce even more torque (stroke it like the 96), or make it rev and breathe better and increase displacement a little (big bore) with some headwork and cams? I'd go for the latter personally because it'll improve horsepower the most.
Both breathe like crap from the factory so I think you're looking at a stage 1 no matter what. Beyond that I'd say, if you care about performance, but not so much that you want to mess with the engine internals, then go for the 96. If you believe that you will ultimately want more, it's a little less clear and the 88 could possibly be better (even if the bikes cost the same), depending on what you want. There are a ton of PROVEN performance options out there for the 88 for starters. So you don't have to wait for the aftermarket to catch up for one thing.
I don't think there is any doubt for the price difference here, a worked 88 would SMOKE the stage1 96 for cheaper. But it depends on comfort level and preferences. If you care at all about performance,AND want a mostly stock bike, then I'd agree the 96 is probably the better choice.
