Welcome to the forum from Sacramento.
I myself gave up messing with the windshields. If anything I did find I had the least buffeting with the Spartan windshield by National Cycle but it just looks so damn goofy on my Street bob. So I only keep it around for the super long hauls (1000miles+). It's the 18inch one I think.
Saying High to everyone as a new member from San Jose, Ca. I am a new rider who purchased a 06 Dyna Street BOB and love my first bike at least around town. Hope I can learn from the experienced HD riders.
What are Street bob riders doing to fight the hurricane effecton Highway speeds. I purchased a HD Compact QD Shield and it did just ok but not good enough to drive over 65+ on the Cali highway speeds. Is it the bike or the shield. Oddly enough moving it up or down made no difference and the slip stream is above my helmet so a taller shield wont help. I did notice the clean air is between me and the windshield so if there was a way to tilt back the shield I think it would work. bat Wings, 1/4 fairings -handle bar min shields- so many options- what to do? Wow these items are expensive so I dont want to continue to shells out the bucks to find the problem continues. Sorry for the rant
My only other reference I recently rode an 08 Electra Glide- OMG like riding in a convertable even without a helmet- visiting family in Florida. My ride is like being the hood ornament- hoping to change from a full HJC Cl16 helmet to a Half but if would be impossible with my current set up. Trying to make the SB work for me without giving up on this bike.
Recomendations- getting frustrated. Tired of the hurricane effect. Never thought it would be so difficult to eliminate.
Welcome from SF. I can't contribute much to the fairing and shield conversation as I ride without either. It seems like there are too many variables for this issue to get real good advice - rider height, fairing/shield type and height, helmet type, bar position, peg position, etc. I'd say get what you think looks good and tweak your set up to make it work for you.
07bobber- your setup looks great- Is it a Rifle roadster fairing (non bubble) with the tall shield? You said you can ride easily at 80-85- how tall are you? Time to try another system and sell the HD compact QD shield which is almost brand new. Any takers?
