I'm picking up a 2004 FXD this Friday and plan to install a set of Wild1 500 series chubby bars. I want to run the wires internally and am capable of removing the pins from the connectors, separating the signals from the other wires, etc so I can install the signals on the triple tree.
That said, I'm wondering if anyone here can comment of on the length of the stock harness wires. On my 2006 Wide Glide, there was a considerable amount of spare wire stuffed in the hollow area of the frame behind the steering stem under the tank. This bike has stock bars which have little rise and less reach back. I'd like to know if the 2004 stock Dyna harness has any spare length. I know I'll find out soon enough, but I'm curious while I wait. Worst case, I can cut and splice, but I'd rather not.
Thanks guys! The 500 drags have a 6" rise and a similar pull back to the stock. I will pull and measure the stock harnesses since they're already external and see where I stand. There are no bar clamp/risers, so the bar rise will be measured from the top triple clamp. My options are 6", 8", and 10". I had the 507s with a 10" rise on my Wide Glide and really liked them. I'm not looking for cruise comfort, so any height other than straight and flat will work for me.
If your genuine handlebar is the same than on my FXDC 09, a few months ago I changed my handle bar for this one Guidon Wild 1 Chubbys Pullback Drag Bar 6, the one that you want, herefater the pic:
Everything was allright without modifications,, exepted the clutch cable, too long and if I recall well, I installed a fatbob cable P/N 38785-08A.
Hope this helps.
I put 12" street Bob bars on my 2005 super glide. You have enough wire for the bars, but its a pain in the a$$ with the older frames. You may have to rock/feed the harness down by the seat to get it to fit. Newer frames, 2006 +, are easier.
