Broke a shock bolt, waited a week for a new bolt and it came in today. Bolt was broken about in the middle of the threads so I finally got a hole drilled in the sob although a little off center. Tried to use an ez out and managed to break it off. Finally got a hole drilled beside it and drove it out from the other side and enlarged the original hole and tried a larger ez out and the damned thing won't budge. I'm afraid to force it any more for fear of breaking anothe ez out. I sprayed it with PB blaster hoping that will loosen the lock tite overnite.
Flustrating as hell. Shudda been a twenty minute job and I've screwed with this ***** for a coupla hours and still no joy.
Do you think that PB blaster spray will loosen that remaining part of the bolt or should I be doing something else?
For future reference same thing happened to my buddy and he replaced it with a matching grade 8 bolt from home depot. 5000 miles now and its still good. Could have saved you some time.
I've had better luck with reverse twist drill bits than with easy outs. Usually, the bolt spins out while drilling. When I do use an easy out, I drill as large of a hole as possible in the bolt so I can use the largest easy-out to reduce the risk of breaking it.
personally if you tapped it dead center you can keep going up in drill bits till you can get some good meet on there with an ez out, or use a left handed drill bit... if you use a torch use a micro torch so that you do not ruin the paint/powder on the rails post up some pics and we can help you trouble shoot this
