Default Winter Mods - Chrome Cover Question

Bike is on the lift, back wheel removed for a new Metzler tire, exhaust is off, and tins are getting painted.I just finished putting a chrome outer primary and chrome cam cover on. The issue now is replacing the side tranny cover with a chrome cover. Bike is full of transmission fluid and I cannot drain it while on the lift. Do you guys know whether I can pull the side transmission cover without having a fluid mess on my hands? When I did the cam cover, I managed to catch most of the oil, but still had a bit of a mess. I would like to avoid it this time. I know, bad planning, should have drained the fluids first.

use some type of pump or a turkey baster with a thin hose attached. It may sound dumb but it might work.

I agree with speed8988, the turkey baster will get most of the fluid out, so you will not have such a big mess. you are probably going to lose some on the floor but at least it should be small....

Just pulled the cover, but before doing so - I have a hydraulic pump - so I used that to get as much transmission fluid out of the side cover as possible. When I pulled the cover, I still got quite a bit of fluid out - on the order of 3-4 ounces. You can't pull the cover off when the bike ison the lift without making a mess. Anyway, its done now, new chrome cover and new ramps for the easy clutch kit. On to the next project.
