While doing a 20k service, my local mechanic recommended I do a stage 1 AF upgrade too. He charged me a total of $200 P+L for the installation. Seemed a little high, but not so bad.
Today I decided finally I could punt that damn football cover for good. So i yanked it off, and what I saw perturbed me..
Whilethe filter itself looks new, the stage 1 plate, etc. looks used! It's dirty, scuffed and a bit chipped. Also, this may just be my ignorance but I would expect there not to be a dangling connector. The left side was connected, but the right side was not. At a minimum I'd think it would be moved out of harms way of the engine heat, if indeed it is OK to leave it unconnected.
See pictures. Am I being paranoid, or was this a bad job?

Reason: Adding a pic
I don't know about the connector as I haven't had mine apart, but that seems weird. As far as the backing part, that's about how mine looks too. I think it's pot metal and kinda sticks out like a sore thumb. Over the winter I'm going to send mine out to get chrome plated (about $70) which should improve the looks alot.
I have not installed one of these myself but that does not look like mine. I have plastic do dads that fill in those breather holes (look at some pics somewhere and you will see what I mean) and my filter is a different style from harley I believe. The wire has a small piece of double sided tape that held it somewhere. Just need some new tape and a new home for it. What brand is the filter?

It's a K&N filter. I'm pretty sure the connector was stowed in the football cover, and upon closer inspection it looks like it may not have been plugged into anything for a while.. suggesting as you say just find a new home for it and leave it be..
The connector is just capped off, I cant remember what Its for but theres a clip that holds it in place on the stock backing plate, a good tech ties it to the tps harness for the sake of safety and appearance. Looks like a real cob job cause they pulled the stock breather hoses off your old filter and used them, it should have plugs in those holes with hoses that dump the oil back into the throttle body
I had an Arlen Ness Big Sucker installed on my 2010 Street Bob and the connector was left loose also. I was told it was not used when the stock air cleaner was taken off, something that it was only to conform to Ca. smog requirements. I was told it just gets tied up out of the way and not to worry about it. My bike runs good so I don't worry about it.
I got my htgh flow ac from HD and my filter dose not look like that one. The one that came with my kit has some tsper to it. You should have gotten some pluge for the mount holes that have a tube going under the filter to vent the engine. I looks a lot better with the plugs. Looks like they just had some parts they put together to make a kit.
