Default Adjust Shifter Travel

A month or two back I replaced a worn shifter lever and ever since then it's felt like my shifter has had more vertical travel up and down. As if I have to life my toe/foot much more vertical to shift up, I especially notice this when shifting from 1st to 2nd. I put it so it sits level, just as it was before I replaced it. Is there a way to adjust the shifter's vertical travel and tighten things up a bit?

Sounds like the return spring is broken if your lever is floppy.

It's not floppy, there's no play or anything. What I'm looking for is reducing the distance between shifting gears I guess...if that makes sense.

The distance from first (all the way down) to second (all the way up) feels way more further than it was before changing shifters. Is there a way to tighten up anything with the clutch plate or transmission or shifter itself to reduce the amount of travel between 1st and 2nd, or neutral to 1st or neutral to 2nd?

You should be able to adjust at the spline.

Are you sure that the new lever is the same length as the one you replaced? If it is longer it will have to travel further.

That outside shift lever is not tight on the splines most likely. Loosen the bolt, put something on the inside(like wood)between the primary and inner lever and put a socket over the outer lever and drive it on tight. Torque the lever bolt tight, you should be able to see the end of the splines when looking at your shift lever.

I'm guessing that you swapped out the rear shift lever on the transmission with a longer one from a 2006 and up forward control lever, as they are longer and will increase your shift travel.

Nope, it's the same size, I looked up part numbers and compared the two. Oh well, I'll get over it. Just wondered if there was some easy quick fix I could do but tightening something down somewhere...
