Help a buddy?
My friend has a '97 Dyna, and can't get it started. Here is what he sent me:
When I had a full charge on battery, starter would not turn over. Just clicked. I haven’t pulled the starter to bench test it at Autozone yet, but if it’s fried, it’s $300 for a new. I can order the brushes and coil to rebuild it myself though, but is there a starter relay or something?
I don't have much experience with the electrical system on these bikes. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Before tearing into the starter you might want to do a load test on the battery, it may seem charged but not strong enough to start it., as Blubob mentioned check the battery and starter connections. There is a starter relay and are pretty cheap to buy.
Sometimes the coil/solenoid is used to make the final electrical contact for the starter, after the pinion gear is fully engaged. It could be that the contact is worn down. I had it happen on a car.
Check all wiring connections and fuses.
If no go, jump the battery.
If it starts, could be a bad battery - do load test.
If still no go with a jump, likely its the starter.
Ronnie's shows a starter rebuild kit for the 97 for about $50.
Go luck.
