I have a 2011 wide glide and if anything happened to it, I know for a fact I wouldn't even consider another bike. since you already had a WG and don't feel that way maybe it's not the bike for you. like others said nobody can tell you what's best for you. I just know after the first ride on my wide glide I wouldn't replace it for any other bike.
And although unfortunately your experience was truncated, I guess you have some saddle time with the Wide Glide from which to form initial impressions ...

That said, I was just at the dealership today ... and I gotta say I find the Softail Slim extremely attractive ...
Best wishes for your continued recovery and good luck with the decision ...
I don't think you can go wrong with both. Do you want a sporty feeling Dyna or a cruiser Softail? And if you're up in the air on that question, it may just come down which has the paint scheme you prefer.
Good luck!
That's exactly what i think, at time i owned 2 EVO softails (modified) during 10 years and I can not really criticize this model or that it is a calf! But after only 6 months with my 10 WG's i can said that's a really new vision to enjoy the road trip for me ! Seriously dynamic frame with no wobble sensation you can have with the softail..That's true ! So this is one difference very important for my opinion : The unbalanced 96 (or 103) motor on the dyna ! Harley motor without vibrations is not really my cup of tea and the softly mount motor & transmission frame on the dyna is a better technical solution..But perhaps if you want to have a special old chopper look the blackline must be considerate, for show off i agree ^^
I own a street bob and recently test rode a blackline. The blackline is too low for me, I was scraping parts in the corners on the test ride. If you like good handling, stick with the dyna. If that's not so important, pick the one that has the most visual appeal to you.
I'd love to get a chance to test ride a Blackline to see how I like the ride but the closest one are 400+ miles from my area.
I do like the Wide Glide and I would have gotten one again if they would have one with the same color at my local dealership. Unfortunately, it would have to be a dealer swap just like the Blackline.
So to me the issue is not whether I do or do not like the Wide Glide.
The reason HD has so many models is they figured out not everyone is the same. I tested a bunch of bikes from the Iron to a true bragger. There was one and only one bike that fit me perfectly, a 2012 shiny black Wide Glide. From the time I sat on it till the time I test road it, I said the same thing to the dealer Oh my this is it. I believe the price jumped when he knew how much I wanted the WG. Don't show your cards when you have a good hand. There is one thing about this bike though, you will accessorize this bike for extended rides. Be prepared the add ons will cost you, but that's half the fun. Enjoy the bike what ever you decide.
Go with the FXDWG, can't go wrong with 32 yrs of being in the lineup. The ordering part is nothing, besides it's winter. In the end the wait will be worth it.
Congratulations on your 2nd new bike! I contemplated getting a new blackline before i got my dyna, but didn't dig the ride... Hope that this one has a much, much longer life than ur WG did... may it rest in peace
