What's the best place to do cam research in finding out and comparing cams? Besides googling for hours... anyone have a recommended go to place?

Mark, I have SE slipons and an SE Stage 1 air cleaner. It has significantly more power in the mid range now, which is where i do most of my riding. I just used the auto tune from my PV, so not sure what the numbers are. Overall, I am very happy with it.

Tim,

Thanks for the reply. I couldn't view the file and then realized it is probably in a Power Vision format - I'm using a TTS tuner. What I was most curious about are the timing tables. Everytime I ask about the 204 timing I can't seem to get a solid answer. I was looking at a couple of Base MAP's and they are as much as 10 degrees different. I don't know but that seems a bit much.

I did take it to a tuner but unfortunatelly he didn't go into the timing tables (caution - make sure you and the "tuner" are on the same page). Anyway - I'm going back to the TTS manual and going to take another go at it. I would just like to have a good starting point.

If anyone running the 204's has can post a snap shot of their timing I would appreciate it.

BTW - my bike doesn't run bad at all ... I just have a sense it could run better.

Well I was thinking about the TTS tuner and how anyone can download the program because you have to have the interface to make it work. Turns out the Power Vision is the same way. I downloaded the PV software and I was able to open and view the timing tables. Now I can compare it to some of the other MAP's I've viewed.

Thanks

I'm probably going with the SE204s as well but trying to decide if the SE 1.725 rockers are really worth the extra time and money. I don't think anyone has ever done a real comparison of with and without so I guess I'll never know.
Here are a couple of resources when looking at cams ... a tutorial that does a really good job of explaining the characteristics of cams ...

http://www.harley-riders-guide.com/h...dson-cams.html

... and a link to a table of popular cams for H-D Twin Cam motors ...

http://www.nightrider.com/cgi-bin/ff...?ff_config.txt

About your question on the 1.725 rocker arms ... these rockers alter the relative position of the 'fulcrum' of the rocker arms to increase the amount by which the valve stem is depressed ... that is, they give additional lift with the same cams when compared to the stock rocker arms ...

The reason that someone might use the rocker arms is that they are looking for a higher lift but the alternative cams with higher lift have profiles with earlier opening or closing events ...

I am using 1.725 rockers on the intake side only with Andrews TW37B cams ... so, kind of a really one-off setup ...

* * *

One thing that many people do not really consider is that the cams may allow greater Cubic Feet per Minute (CFM) than the intake and exhaust ports will flow ...

One of the comments that I received was that the Screamin Eagle MCR Performance heads that I am using flow at .550 lift the same as they do at .510 lift (this is about the incremental lift resulting from the 1.725 rockers) ... while that was a valid point, what it failed to consider is that the 1.725 rockers increase the lift at all points of the cams once they come off the base circle (so that they flow more CFM through about half of the camshaft rotation) ...

Good work timfromfc and others who've DIY the cam install ... enjoy the ride ...

not to threadjack, but can anyone tell me the true advantage to going with adjustable pushrods? other than ease of cam install?
