Default Stage !! upgrade question

I have a stage 1 '09 Dyna and want to go move up to 103' stage !!. What cams do most people recommend to go with this? To make it simple, I am thinking about ordering the SE stage !! and having my local dealer do the upgrade. I would like to increase both torque and HP and also have a cam that will make the thumpy, potato-potato sound. Any advice?

Depends on how you ride your bike.

If you're going to order a factory kit, you will obviously have SE cams in the kit. Most of these kits come with the SE-255 cams.
Some SE drop in cam options include the SE-204, SE-211 SE-254e, SE-255, SE 259e.

All of these cams have different profiles and make peak HP & TQ at different rpms. In order to get the lope you want, you'll only get that with a cam with a good deal of duration and overlap....those cams are higher rpm cams and are worthless in the rpm ranges 95% of us actually ride in. Be realistic & honest with yourself about how you ride.

The only compromise is the SE-204...makes good power and torque in lower rpms as well as upper rpms, yet does have a good lope to it. As far as SE cams go for good performance during normal riding conditions and rpms, the SE-255 or SE-204 would be your best bet.

Buy cams for how you ride, not for the sound. If you buy a cam based on how it makes the bike sound at idle and it doesn't match your riding style, you're going to be very disappointed and waste a lot of time and money.

Use the search function on this forum, and you will come up with many threads on this topic. If you don't have to have an SE cam or a kit, the Andrews 48H cam is highly recommended by many as a good bolt in option.
Also, IMO the 103 upgrade is not worth the $ & you're not going to gain that much + you will have to break it in again. Stick with the 96 and spend that money on cams & head work if you're looking for better performance.
Also, whatever you decide for an upgrade...get it dyno tuned properly. That will make a world of difference in how your bike runs and performs.

I agree 100% with sharkman. If you really want to go up in size, I would consider fuel motos 107 kit. You would save thousands by having them do the work opposed to having the dealer do the 103. Or save even more by doing it yourself.
