Default 2011 street bob

Last year my wife bought me first gear heated jacket and gloves and the temp controller. I had to get jumped off two times (rode with it many times without having to be jumped). I took the bike to the dealer and they charged the battery and said everything was fine. They said keep it on the trickle charger. I say a 2011 street bob should hold a charge. This Summer I haven't had any problems but sometimes sound weak lots of compression. I haven't read about any body having this charging problem. Maybe I'm not riding far enough (15 miles to work)? Does it sound like its not charging correctly?
Thanks
Jim

Once it is completely dead, you will need to trickle charge over night. Even that is questionable. May need to use a small charger. If it keeps happening make need a new stator or battery. Are you heated gloves and stuff wired to the bike?

I have a pig tail attach to the battery. I don't turn them on until its running. I have run the bike all summer without a problem. Sometimes it crank slow it first( like compression) but starts within a few seconds. Is there away to check the stator? The dealer had me wait a couple of hrs charging the batt, I assume they checked the charging system. They said no problem no charge. I going to try again this winter and see what happens. Don't some run two set of heated gear?
Thanks
Jim

Never assume anything the stealership told you. Check connections on battery are tight. Make sure your ground is good. Check your voltage at the battery before starting and after. Should be around 13-14 volts or so after starting. This should confirm your stator is working. 15 miles of riding should recharge your battery.

Why would you need heated gear in Alabama?

Thanks I will try that. So if its around 12v before starting should it be 13-14v at idle?

I can't stand being cold. But I can't stand not riding either. Thank god our winters are mild.

it should go up a bit when you give it gas if it is charging correctly. Connectors need to be clean, check wiring on you addition for you gear as well make sure they aren't loose.

Thanks for the help. Don't know what I would do without this site. Read it every day.

Battery will be @12.4-12.8V sitting with bike not running....will be @13.8 when running, and may surge slightly when revved, but your regulator/rectifier will keep it pretty consistant. If not charging could be stator or regulator. Pretty easy to check with a multimeter.
