As we are getting into winter riding I wanted to see what the wind chill temperature was on my way to work today. Being in CA, and the bay area specifically, I am able to ride year round. Today was 42 heading to work and the calculator said 27 was the wind chill temp.
This calculator is specifically for motorcycling with certain conditions changed to take riding into account. it lists both the old wind chill and new wind chill temps and explains the difference. Thought some might find it usefull or interesting.
"Specifically, the new WCT index will: use wind speed calculated at the average height (5 feet) of the human body's face instead of 33 feet (the standard anemometer height); be based on a human face model; incorporate modern heat transfer theory (heat loss from the body to its surroundings, during cold and breezy/windy days); lower the calm wind threshold to 3 mph; use a consistent standard for skin tissue resistance; and assume the worst case scenario for solar radiation (clear night sky)."
Winter riding? 42? AHHH.. 42 is a nice start to a Nov day around here.
We took 14" of snow last wekend with more forecast for this weekend too.
I only wish it was 42 in the morning.
Yes, I am bitter.

I wish i had your problem i have a brand new sled i want to ride
Heated gear would be nice. I usually just layer up and go for it. Don't have far to go for the daily work ride, but on longer rides, the cold is creeping in pretty good after a while.
