Default Spray paint handle bars?

I am like my mini apes on my 2012 street bob but would like to either swap to black ones or spray paint my bars. Just trying to save what appears to be a couple Benjamin's. Anyone try this with good outcomes or have any good advice?

Thanks!

I have not had the best of luck with painting handle bars , don't get me wrong I've done it but without fail you'll scratch the paint up putting all the controls back on.Then if your lucky you can touch it up when your done but overall more frustration than it's worth.Best to search Ebay and the forum classifieds for a set similar to what you have in black or powder coat the ones you have now.

appliance epoxy would be the way to go if you decide to. its thicker than regular spray paint. just make sure you have patience and prep the bars. spray paint can be a pain the a-hole.

Get them powder coated, you have a choice of colors and texture and it cheap ,find a shop that does powder coating in your area look at what other parts you might want black and do it all at once, it's usualy the cheapest that way, if it is billet allmumin you can also have it anodized black I just did my wheels and fender brace $50 and they came out nice

Agreed. Pics much more durable than paint. If you do paint though, you should sandblast the chrome. Paint doesn't stick to chrome very well.

I've got brand new mini-apes from my 2013 Street Bob. PM me if you want to make a deal. They are chrome too, but you could have them powder coated before disassembly of your bike.

SLV, are the ones in your pics 10inch? They look a little larger. My Dealer told me today that if I went 12 inch I would have to have all of the cables re-done so curious if you agreed if this was accurate? I would like a little more height but would do a 1 inch riser if it saved me big bucks which of course it would.

Thanks to everyone else for the paint recomendations! Happy new year!

If you do paint them, find a good self etching primer and like others said spend the time to prep. And be delicate cause the paint will scratch.

Your dealer is wrong about having to change your cables. I just put 12" bars with 1.5" risers & didn't need longer cables. If I would've gone any higher though I would've had to.

The bars on my bike now are 14" plus 4" risers. I needed cables and brake line.

Some of the guys here have done 14" without changing cables. You will be alright with 12" bars and up to a 2" riser.
