Default VHT epoxy on tins

I came to the conclusion that I was too clumsy for the plasti-dip coating I put on my tins, specifically the tank. I kept splattering gasoline on my tank and gasoline drops were eating away at the plasti-dip coating. I didn't like the way it was looking so I decided to change finishes.

I went with VHT Epoxy in Satin Black. I loved the way it came out. With that said, I didn't sand down properly a couple of runs on my rear fender so I'll have to redo at some point, but that can wait 'till summer.

The finish has a little more sheen than the Harley denim which is what I wanted.

Here's the bill:
2 cans of expoxy (advance auto): $14.00
1 pack of assorted wet/dry sandpaper (oreilly's): $7.00
2 decals (buddy): $16.00
Total for facelift: $37.00

I also painted my horncover, A/C cover and Primary Cover.

My sig pic has my scoot with the plasti-dip when it was freshly done, but I just didn't like the way it weathered. Also, my buddies FatBob is in Harley denim so you can compare.

Have a good one and Happy New Year.

I'd be interested to see how it color matches the Harley Denim.

It does have more of a sheen than Harley Denim but nowhere close to a gloss/vivid black. It's a traditional satin finish.

Looks really good.

Epoxy should hold up well. It really only has two enemies in this environment. Sun and wind.

Depending on how many cots you applied, you'll probably get tired of it before wind erosion shows up.

The sun will fade it if your epoxy doesn't have UVA protection characteristics. If not, you can always add a satin clear with protection. Personally, I think some sun fade will look good.

Nice work. Can we get a close up of your tank decal. I can't unite read it.

The close up of the front fender is pretty accurate. My tank is not as smoot as front fender but that was operator error. I didn't take time on my last coat and it's not as smooth. My rear fender is smooth however I did have two runs from my first coat that I thought I had sanded out but evidently I didn't.

Point is it has the potential for being real smooth you just have to take your time and be more patient than me.
