Default Super Glide Windshield

My wife has a '13 Anniversary Super Glide she really enjoys. Riding it in temps in the 40's has got her thinking of a quick detach windshield. Her riding is an even mix of suburban/rural and 2 hour highway rides X 2 most weekends.

The most important qualities are 1/ it HAS to compliment the looks of the bike and 2/ she has to see over it, even if that minimizes protection from the elements.

This bike is her baby. It's gotta look good!

The ones the dealer recommended were too high. She would have been looking through them, which is a no no for her.

Any suggestions or recommendations most welcome. She's 5'6".

Thanks.

I got the HD 18" quick detach for mine and cut it down about 3" with a jigsaw and fine blade. I could always see over it but had a bad reflection from my headlight at night so I cut it down. You would never know it was cut and it works great.

That would be what I might do when I get my windshield this week

I have the same shield and I also cut mine down so if mounted against lower triple tree I was just looking over it and if needed I can move it up for a little more protection

I have to cut mine down....As it sits now, the top of the windshield is directly in my line of sight and it's annoying as hell.

How EXACTLY did you guys cut yours down? Meaning, what kind of blades, etc...

I've been thinking of cutting it down but was afraid it would be a disaster. Reading the above, I guess not.

Put blue painters tape on both sides of the shield. I taped it off several inches lower than I planned to cut. This will protect it and give you somewhere to draw your cut line. Measure it carefully and draw it out on the tape. I used a small little Black & Decker jigsaw that I had with a fine tooth blade. I just grabbed the finest blade I had, nothing special. Go slow and keep the guide flat against the shield as you cut. You will be surprised how easilly it cuts. Before removing the tape I sanded the edge with a few different grits of sandpaper and beveled the edge a little. Remove the tape and you're done.

I was a little apprehensive too but trust me, just be careful and you'll be fine.

Default windshield cut-out

I cut mine yesterday. Instead of cutting the top (20" recurve - Clearview Shields), I cut the headlight cutout so I could put the bottom clamp below the lower triple tree. That way I can still raise it as high as I want if the need should arise. Used the same methods discussed here and at multiple postings on the web (Blue painters tape, fine blade, etc.). It took about 10-15 minutes to cut. The hard part was cleaning the hardware after removing the HD shield that I previously used.

an easy way to get the cut line is to trace the curve along the top of the windshield on to a card board or posted board and then move the poster board down the windshield for the cut line. this will help keep the original curve
