How hard are the engines to work on (im a diesel mechanic by trade). I kno shes in good shape like i said needs odds and ends lol! Id really love to find a bagger.......but i dont need that much bike right now. Ill look around before i make a final decision though.

They are very straitforward, very basic engines. Get a service manual, and take your time.

Not sure whether it's an FX or FXR. If it's an FX lowrider like i think. that was basically a 1 year model on a 4 speed frame, they made a few like that in 86 also. You have to hunt for parts if you need them. If it's a 4 speed it's a FX. If it's a 5 speed it's an FXR and should be no problem except either way the price is too high. You could buy a new one in 1985 for that same $5500.
5500 seems a little high especial if it is not in running condition. If it is indeed "firm" you may wish to look around a bit more. Tell your friend that you will consider it at 5k and see what happens. It is winter, so it is a buyers market, not a sellers. evolution engines are great. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Parts are very available. Yes, you may have to do work on an older bike, but that should be part of the experience. If you are not mechanically inclined, buy a newer bike. If you can't afford a newer Harley, look to other brands and save your money.
