Spoke to Jaime (dude) in case management after talking to some woman, who was very helpful and nice where she could be. Jaime on the other hand really didnt know what to say or what planet he lives on. Didnt really care that my guage is somewhere with somebody getting something or nothing done to it while my wallet is 300.00 lighter. Didnt really care about finding a solution or alternative product that may work in this ones place. I knew a little more about....well no a lot more about my bike then he did. I know we all hate our jobs but I am surprised he has one.
The quest continues emailing my guy at the dealer now.
Kinda glad to hear I'm not the only one. Kind of not glad also. I have had trouble with every electric part from fuel gauges to oil gauges to this speedo thought it was just me and my ride. Starting to believe in this cheapest bidder stuff. Can you believe I was once told I ride in the rain too much. Could be causing a lot of my problems.? I don't do much shopping at that dealer any more. LOL!
It's interesting to hear others are having a problem with the new Speedo. We need to keep the thread going so that everyone can keep up to date on what Harley is going to do about this problem.
I've asked my dealer to kept me up to date on any notices coming from Harley on this speedo.
it might be because its only compatible with the new canbus ECU's. thinking thats what it might be, i did a quick parts search on the HD website starting with 2010 and the speedo/tach combo gauge doesn't show up compatible till 2012 models where they started installing canbus on dynas.
No, as everyone in the post states the error is not thrown when the original speedo is installed.
If there is a new model ECU, wouldn't Harley state that this speedo only works with the new design?
Is the new ECU compatible with older model Dyna's
I guess I will asked the dealer about this new ECU when I go there this weekend.

one would think. but whos to say they even tested it on the older models with the old ECU? as for installing the canbus on an older dyna, it might require more than just swapping in a new ECU and calling it done. you might have to go through and change out misc parts throughout the bike. but im no harley tech/mechanic so take that with a grain of salt. but hopefully someone can figure it out for you.
theres a lot of different things that run off the ECU it would be a pain to get it all running, if it does not do it with the old speedo and only with the new do 20 dry starts it will clear the codes and if its nothing serious the light will stay historic in the ECU and you shouldn't see the check engine light.
Part number 70900274 is for 2004-2011 Dyna models. There are plenty of people running them with no issues. Those of us with the problems must have got the lemons. Oh and again no trouble until after the install.

^This.
What is annoying is even if it just stored a historic code I wouldnt really care but it doesnt. The frickin engine light and security light flash on and off completely random while your driving. Really dissappointed that this 300 guage from Harley has produced no viable source of the issue.
