I know this is an old thread, but I just picked up an 06 dyna super glide with this guage and it is giving me the same issue as all have stated. Was any fix ever found for this? I bought it used and the bike already had the guage on , so I do not have stock speedo anymore. Thanks again!
Not for me. I gave up in 2013. Im still riding the same bike with the stock speedo. You dont really need a tach for the bike thats why I didnt keep pursuing it and I still dont have one. Anyway, good luck maybe somebody will chime in here with a solution.
Wondering if I get a dakota digital or some other guage since I do not have the stock one anymore. I assume if I buy another "stock" guage for this bike I would have to take it to the dealer for the mileage to be reset.
A lot of guys like the Dakota digital stuff and went with that because it worked. To me, they looked like a cheap digital watch from the early 80s. But I think Dakota digital has since come out with new stuff that looks a lot better.
After my try at making it work and getting nowhere and then HD tech said it wouldn't work, I got my money back and lost interest in it. As an after thought one of the parts guys, the smart one, and myself compared wiring charts between 2006 and 2007 later Street Bobs and there is a difference in the speedo wiring of one wire.
So we assumed, yeah I know, that was why it never worked.

Hmph. Really? How about that? You actually solved the mystery when Harley themselves couldnt? And to think of all the guys who struggled with it and all the different dealerships and parts counters and calls to Harley from all different parts of the country.
Nice work. Truly. 👍🏼

Could you please give me a little more detail? I had mine plugged into an 07. Still had trouble so Im a little confused.
Going from memory here so may be a little fuzzy. Looking at the 06 wiring chart for horn & instruments the #2 wire LGN/V is called Databus. On my09 wire chart same wire number, same color, it's called Serial Data. Now being electrical challenged I don't know if data bus and serial data are the same, different, or what. Because of different names we assumed they performed differently and thats why it wouldn't work.
At the time we thought the tach would not work on any 06 and probably early 07's because HD would use all wiring harness and parts from 06 until they were gone.
Then use the new parts,
This was all guess work on our part as HD tech would not tell why it wouldn't work, just that it wouldn't. They did say I could leave it in and put up with lights and flashing ,or go back to stock. But recommended going to stock. Received my money back, went back to stock.
Few years later bought a low rider with its seperate tach and speedo.
Just checked HD website the tach/ speedo PN 70900274 is listed as Final Sale Non Returnable. Looks like HD is giving up on it.

Hope this helps or makes sense somehow.
Absolutely, thanks! Explains a lot. My Street Bob is an early 07. I actually had to go a few rounds with the dealer before they took it back. It wasnt a painful experience just time consuming.
So since I bought this bike used with this speedo and no stock one, would you guys suggest purchasing a stock one from dealer? Will they sell the stock speedo and reprogram if needed?
