Default Homemade sissybar & side mounts?

Ok, I was looking for a tall sissy bar, to tie off some gear for when I go on some camping trips this year, and found one I like.
It is the 30" "Old School" Attitude Stick from Cycle Visions.
I am just having a hard time swollowing the price tag of $125 and then another $85 for the side mounts from HD. Over $200 for some rod & plate steel...WTF! Not to mention the fact I would have to dechrome the side mounts.

So the wheels started spinning, Surely I can get some rod & plate steel, weld it all together, paint it black for less than $50.

Does anyone have the '06 side mount brackets that you can get the dimensions for me, or better yet trace it off on sdome paper for me. Need thickness also.

Thanks

Default RE: Homemade sissybar & side mounts?

A guy named Bobby (not sure of his screen name anymore) asked me to build him a sissy bar for his WG last X-Mas and it wasn't all that difficult. He sent me his stock sissy bar as a template for the mounting hole location and bitchpad location. It turned out great and he's happy with it.

The hole mounting locations are at 3/8" and 1 5/8" from the bottom of the material you'll be using, the holes are 1/4 x 28 thread and the material is 1/2" square or round. as for the side plates, I'd trace out mine and send it to you but I've got a '98 FXDS and I'm sure it's different than yours.

Here's a couple of pictures of the sissy bar:

Gotta have something "pointy" on there, so...

And here's the aluminum mockup I made to give Bob an idea of what it was going to look like:
