I use a 1/2 inch breaker bar and a long pipe to loosen the compensator nut.

You would think they would make a complete gasket/seal kit for this job. I can't seem to find one that includes everything I'll need. What is a good brand to buy as far as gaskets and seals? I am hoping I'll only have to do this one time...on this sled anyway...

Harley..in my opinion. Little high but the primary is a 3 piece. gasket/tin/gasket with a slight v cup shape. I always throw a thin film of black rtv on the engine side. Next time off it stays on outer cover. Can reuse at least one time in my experience as long as you throw a film down. Of course only do this on your own bike. It's ready to go but wait couple days for rtv two cure completely to clean up. Then rub a rag or your finger down seam and the excess will roll right off.

I'm getting ready to do this as soon as my parts come in. I ended up ordering all my parts through Amazon. Getting James Primary Gasket Kit and also the Primary Drive Locking Tool. I will let you all know how it goes. Thanks for all the advice.

Just did mine, all statements here are correct. I had a hard time removing the seal itself,

used a self tapping screw to "drill" in side that gave it leverage to pull it out

Did you need any special tools besides the locking tool and torque wrench?

also replace the 5 self sealing bolts on the inner primary, DO NOT RE USE... it is a good time to do the 30T pulley upgrade!

can't think of the size off hand but you need Chrome sockets(for the clutch and compensator) ; I had black impact ones and they did not fit had to borrow the thinner chrome sizes. I think 1-1/2 and 1-3/8

Red locktite is a must when putting these back on. I used an impact then torque so I did not need wedge

either way should work.

Ok, I did not know that. I will have to find and order the bolts. If I go the 30T route, will I be able to use the same belt? Will it mess with my speedo? Also, it is a 5 speed, don't really want to be revving 5k at 70mph.
