Just put on a set of Progressive 444s. When adjusting the preload should the entire spring rotate or just the adjuster cap?
I have to put all my strength into trying to turn the adjuster. When I turn it the entire spring rotates, which doesn't seem right and sure as hell doesn't sound good. If I hold the spring and try to turn it, it won't budge.
The shock is showing 1 line, so it's not currently at the min or max setting. Anyone have this issue? I was really hoping these would be a worthwhile upgrade from my 412s and now I'm having serious doubts.

Not sure about the 444's, but I have the 430's and the springs rotate with the adjuster cap on mine. I find having one hand on the adjuster and one on the spring makes it easier to get a good grip.

Thanks for the reply.. when you say keep one hand on the spring are you saying that the spring shouldn't move when adjusting it?

so on the 430/440/444 should the spring rotate with the adjuster when i turn it? or is it supposed to be held in place and only the adjuster cap turns?
Turning the adjuster is going to either compress or decompress the spring. If the spring turns while adjusting its probably because of the friction... It shouldn't matter if the spring turns or not.
prob just the weight of the bike on the spring, jack the bike up so the shock isnt under load
Thanks.. but is this going to be required every time? The reason I opted for these shocks were so i wouldn't have to carry a spanner wrench around with me.. now I'll have use a jack whenever I'm adjusting them?
In the videos I've seen of the 440s and 430s the adjuster turns easily. What is the point of getting these shocks if I cannot adjust them on the fly?
