Considering the conditions (no airflow)... The answer is yes to both.

Many will argue that these engines can take that kind of heat. Afterall it happens all the time in congested traffic. But I'll disagree.

That's why I added an engine cooling fan to my bike.

From a cold start my 103 takes about 12 minutes 45 seconds to reach 289 degrees (at idle) which is where the EITMS kicks in. That's about as hot as I ever want it to get. The engine cooling fan keeps the head temps well below that threshold.

It is head temp. On the PV, the engine temp is taken from the head, not the oil.

350 is very high, however, it is also expected if it was idling 25 minutes in your garage. I have had upwards of 330 before but that was during a traffic jam in Northern VA, in the summer. As soon as bike starts rolling, the temps drop very quickly. I have seen as much as 50 degree drop going from a traffic jam crawl up to highway speeds.

Did the EITMS kick in? The stock setting is 347 degrees. However, you can lower this setting to whatever you want.

From a cold start, I only let it idle to about 150 degrees and I get moving, and I don't hammer down until its over 200.

The thread is about cyl head temp, the PV has no access to oil temp.

That is first thing I said. I have a power vision.

My mistake, I was on page 1, thinking there was not a page 2 to this thread yet.

Im glad this was brought up, since I mounted my PV I like looking at all the different readouts and was curious about what is "normal" for head temp. The highest I have gotten so far is about 240. That is taking in account it is cool here in NW FL and I was riding a little hard. It seemed on my normal driving it stayed around 160-180 as long as I was moving. I am expecting it to run a lot hotter when the heat and humidity starts to kick in.

Damn, 160-180 is barely warmed up on my bike. Even cruising around in 35 degrees a few weeks ago, my bike was at 210 or so. In the summer and cruising, it stays in the 250-260 range but will rapidly rise if I have to sit in any prolonged traffic.

Wait until summer, you will cringe when you see how hot these bikes get sitting in traffic when its 95 degrees and matching humidity. I turn the PV to a different screen.
