Default Removing EXTENDED Forward Controls

Hey guys. another newbie here. had a question for yall. I am in the middle of purchasing a 2000 Dyna Wide Glide. it is pretty slick, 18" apes, fatboy rear fender, and extended forward controls. looks great! only problem is that im only about 5'9 and have a feeling between the 18 inchers and extended controls im going to be folded up like a suitcase just trying to reach! im cool with the big apes cuz i just like that look but im thinkin i'll want to go back to just regular forward controls and remove the extensions. I was wondering what all that consisted of. do I have to buy shorter linkage? anything else? have to bleed brakes or anything? any and all info would be appreciated, including a How-To would be great! Thanks guys!

Have you considered the reduced reach for you forward controls?
It will move the controls back, toward you, 1 1/8" and up 1".
Just use the 06 up kit and cut the brake rod 3/8", the mounts are the same.
Just a thought mind you
I am 5'7" and they did the trick for me.
If you have extended forward controls, and remove the adapters you will have to readjust the gear shifter, easy to do, and use a shorter brake rod.
you will not need to bleed .

so you think i do NOT have to buy shift linkage? it screws down to fit? just wonderin what all to buy. should be able to use same brake line since we are going back shorter right?. and just buy the brake rod and unbolt and bolt new one on?

In order to help it would be good to see a photo so we can see what you are using. It all depends on if there is a extended adapter plate. It mounts to the frame and then the forward controls mount to it. Or do you have a extended forward control without the adapter plate.
Your shifter link is your least worries, the brake rod is what will need to be shortened.
You can get the shifter link to fit with no problem. And you can always readjust it by removing the shifter peg and relocate it by the splines.
The brake rod has to be shortened. There are a couple of ways of doing that. Not that hard.
