Ive got an 06 dyna fxdbi and i put the 4 year extended on, i figured that there were so many changes that the chances of some stuff going wrong was pretty good. And with the extended you get extra coverage like if your out of town your hotel and expences are paid for. so for the $1049 i paid I think that is pretty cheep for what you get, a whole lota piece of mind if you ride alot and do long trips. Back when I purchased my 01 wideglide, I didn't opt for the extended warranty the dealerwas tryingto push on me. About2 or3 months before the regular 1 year warranty was about to expire, I got a letter from Harley offering me a 5 year extended warranty, that included a full refund if not used. The price was $1205. I got myrefund a couple of months ago. Was it worth it, yes and no. Would I do it again, probably not. The big advantage was, ifI sold the bike, the warranty was transferable, and the new owner would be entitled to the refund, if the warranty was not used (great selling point). Since I still have the bike, along with several others, that factor didn't come into play. The down side was, you wouldn't take it in for something small, because you didn't want to screw up your refund.Anotherfactor on the down side is, you better read the fine print (I didn't, but managed to get around the sticking point). You have to be able to prove it was serviced according to Harley.
btw...I ask the dealer back then, why they didn't offer me the same warranty, and was told, they were not allowed to offer that package. I don't know if Harley still offers the plan, but you probably won't find out from your local dealer.
I have no idea when they started the warranty program I was talking about, butI do know it's been discontinued. BecauseI just got my refund recently, and I'm sure there are others still eligible, I still have the contact number for the warranty. When I got home, I thought I'd call and ask if it was still available. The lady I spoke with informed me, it was discontinued in 2001.
btw...whenI checked theforms, I paid $1209 for the warranty, andreceived the full amount back.
I went with the extended warranty, for 5 years (3 years past OEM warranty). This is my first new bike and first Harley so I figured at the very least the piece of mind would be worth it... especially since it included the tire plan.
Warranties and insurance are always a what-if proposition. For some it's a risk worth taking and others would prefer to have the coverage! Of course more times than not it won't pay for it's self or companies wouldn't make money of the warranties so they wouldn't offer it but I do know the extended warranty on my used car has been a god send (bad Jetta)!
I got the 5 yr (3 extra) with the tire warranty. This is my first bike and thought if I decide to get something different in a few years it might be easier to sell bike having 2 years of warranty left on the bike. Dealer told me when I need tires to find a rusty nail.
I'm with the majority, save the cash. Not sure with HD's extended warranty, but most allow you to add it at any time during the initial warranty period.
I just wanted to get some advice here. I went in to almost purchase the dyna low rider I have decided to buy.I went thru the prices with the sales guy. They offered me 3 packages withthe extended service plans. The bike is going for 17,422with taxes. The package i am interested in is called chrome rider. It goes ESP,Gap and Wheel and tire protection. The pricegoes up to 19,265. There is another package called polished rider--comeswith only ESP and Wheel and tire protection--total price 18731. So either program adds $1300-1800 to the overall price. Can someonelend their advice if these programs are worth it versusjust taking the 2 year HD warranty and leave it at that.
thanks for your help
Darren
All RUBS have extended warranties. I have the wash and wax service as well. I opted for the bikini wash girls cost a little extra.
