Hey everyone!! New here and I wondered if anyone here has a fxdx and has lowered it?? I am really close to lowering mine. I have wanted to lower it for a couple of years now but resisted due to not knowing if it would harm the ride. I really like how my bike rides but it sits to darned high. Any comment would be great!
Don't have one, but I know others have done it usually with high performance progressive shocks. You would probably want to lower the front too - but not mandatory. Your clearance and lean angle will shrink a bit.
If your rear shocks are in good shape - i'd be interested in buying them, I want to make mine taller.
Yes, I want do go with the progressive 418 alum shock. I'll let you know when I get it done. It will be a while since I have the bike in storage right now.
charger, I have an 04 FXDXI and change the shocks to harley low profile part #54594-03 didn't hurt the ride, made handling alot easier, didn't have to change the kick stand , but do have to be careful where I park. I tightened the front adjustment down all the way. I also change the seat to a badlander and later to aLapera solo, this help to lower it also.Like you I waited about a year as everyone said don't change the shocks. Best thing I have done to the bike. Good luck. JB
jbrewer, thanks for the comments. I see you didn't lower the front forks. I was guessing I would have to do that next. I am even more suprised you didn't have to change the jiffy stand. I too went with the Badland and want a solo seat BAD!! My wife and kids ride so for now I will stick with the badlander and the cruiser seat for longer trips with the old lady.
charger, I should add that I don't ride two up something you might want to think about before you change shocks. On the front all I did was tighten the compression nuts all the way down this lower the front about 3/4 inch. Only the fxdx have these adjustments.
I changed my rearshocks on my FXDX. Lowered about 1 1/2"s. Rides fine with out lowering the front end. Can't find anyone who makes a lowering kit for the front end. See my sig.
The front end can be lowered by pushing the tubes up the trees. Did not try it.
Looks great!! I also have had a hard time finding a lowering kit for the front end and even if I did, it is not something that would be a easy job. It takes a special tool also to take the forks apart on the FXDX. What shock did you go with? It looks like the progressive 418 I am looking to buy. Thanks for the post, I was wondering what mine would look like. I have to wait and measure ground clearance on my pipes since I have ground pounders than curl down towards the ground. I should be ok with 1 1/2 inch drop. The look you have on your bike is exactly what I was shooting for. I have seen some with the tire too far up in the fender and that also does not look right, yours is perfect.
