Painting engine casing question???
Do you have to sand or scuff the standard grey casing before painting or can you just clean and paint over it

Not an expert automotive painter but I have been in the painting industry for over 25 years. Our rule has always been - clean, dry and dull. If the substrate is clean, dry and doesn't shine, paint should stick, provided your using good paint that can handle the temp. Good luck

Clean and dry should be good enough, but if you want to go an extra mile a final cleaning with some type of aluminum prep cleaner followed by an alodine or iridite conversion coating would be the absolute best preparation you could do.
