I'm considering a 2007 FXD with 24K mile its in excellent shape. From what I know this is the first year of the 96Cu inch engine and the 6speed tranny.
This would be my first move out of a 1200 Sportster (which I really like and enjoy riding) to something a little bigger and perhaps more suitable (and comfortable) for longer rides (maybe?).
Any of your collective wisdom and experience would be appreciated.
That's what I have and like it a lot. On the long rides is all about your seat and riding position, IMO. I have forward controls and just put mid mounts and pegs on for a different riding position. I've only had a couple short rides so far but can tell it's going to make longer rides a lot more comfortable being able to move around.
thanks for the input fellas. I already like it quite a lot. I was hoping yall had some input regarding the 5 Vs 6 speed tranny or the 88 Vs 96 ? I don't care either way, I'm more interested in reliability and comfort. Does the 6 speed make that much of a difference?
Sixth gear makes a world of difference on the highway. With Stage 1 mods, I go into 6th gear on the highway at any speed over 55mph with no lugging. I have 32,000 miles on my 2007 FXDC Super Glide Custom and it is very reliable. Neither my wife nor my girlfriend ride so I took off my rear pegs, put on forward controls and a Mustange Vintage Solo seat - can ride 300-400 miles a day no problem.
