Will the 190/17 work in place of the 180/17 currently on? Will the difference in width not cause a problem? I have a 2010 wide glide and the only option I could find for the rear is the pirelli ND 180/17.
2 things to consider when changing tire sizes. 1) Will it fit on the bike without rubbing? 2) Will it fit on the wheel without popping a bead in a corner?
#1 is pretty straight forward. Just measure and compare. For #2, you need to find the tire specs and the wheel specs. Then just simply compare the two. As a rule of thumb, you can safely increase 1 tire width size. Ex: If you have a 4.5" wide wheel, you can safely mount a 5" wide tire.
I'm thinking on getting the Pirelli ND for the rear. My front tire is still in pretty good shape.
Any reason to change the front too or can I just get away with changing the rear.
Sure you can get away with it but there are a couple reasons. One is that tires are designed and manufactured to function optimally as a matched pair. The contours themselves vary.
And there is nothing like riding a motorcycle with brand new F&R tires. If I need to replace one and the other is getting anywhere close to worn out (like 1/3 or less remaining) I do both.
I see that Cobra. I'd love to have a 190 on the back. The look would be great.
It says it'll fit a 5"-6" rim. I have a 4.5" rim. FXDWG12, you're saying this 190 will fit as far as the rim?
Has anyone run the Avon Cobra 190/60R17?
What about handling? What about two up?
The ND is a 180/70 17 the side wall is taller than the Avon which is wider with a shorter sidewall. The lower the profile/sidewall the more it will pinch and distort the shape of the tire changing the contact patch.
I recently had a 190-60-17 Avon Cobra mounted on my 11' wide glide. The sidewall is so stiff on these wide tires that it's not prablable of having any bead problems (not to mention it's less than a 1/4 inch on both sides). I have almost 500 miles on my rear Avon so far and it handles good and I havent had any problems. I'm not concerned about it. There are others on here who have mounted Avons as well. Do what you're comfortable with.

Ok, What size is your rim? Mines 4.5" wide. Is yours the same?
Anybody with a late model Super Glide Custom ever use one?
