So I'm trying to figure out how to go about getting new cables if needed..I have a 09 FXDC and I'm installing 14" apes...is it easiest to buy a burly kit or is there another way of doing it ...I keep reading things like +6 or +4 what is that? how many more feet ????

You could buy a kit or measure your old cables and figure out how much longer they need to be (+4 = 4" longer than stock length) and order them from Magnum or Barnett.
