As a newbie, I wear a full face helmet because itgives memore protection. But it restricts my vision and makes me veryuncomfortable. So I am considering to change it to a half helmet but I am aware of its protection. There is no side and chin protection. Ishalfhelmetreally daugerous for beginners?
Yes and no. A half helmet is safer than none at all. But clearly not as good as a full face.
If your fullf ace restricts your vision and makes you feel uncomfortable, you bought the wrong one. Go back to the MC shop and let someone who knows how fit you for a good one.
I wear a Nolan N-100 with a lift up chin bar. Extremly comfortable. But in the summer around twon I use a half helmet to keep a little cooler. The only crash I ever had was low speed (35-40mph), and I was wearing a half helmet. I bangedmy forehead hard against the pavement, and the helmet protected me just fine. If my chin had been out instead of tucked in, it would have been a differant story.
Helmets are for pussies just buy a hat. LOL. Look guy helmets are helmets over all if you can find a way to fall down and hit your chin past the mushroom effect of a DOT helmet you either have the worst luck in the world or your doing something really really stupid.
A half helmet is all I ever wear. DOT sticker approved. There are two advantages over a full face helmet.......better visual and hearing......cheaper to buy and much, much cooler in summer.
I say go with the half.................pg
Higher end FF are better than the cheaper ones as far as restricting vision. Carbon fiber are lighter and more comfortable. I have both a FF and Half. You get what you pay for, atleast up to a certain point, at some point you will pay fora name like HD on it. carbon fibers FF around $300 would be a good helmet. Half helmets around $100-150. Half obviously offers no chin protection but I've seen a lot of wrecks and seldom is the persons chin damaged. Any helmet offers more than none at all.
like already stated if your full face is obstructing your view it is the wrong helmet you need to find on that fits correct the only way a proper fitting ful face helmet wil block your vision is if you have eyes on the side of your head like a walleye pike .and usually a good full face actually makes hearing better since it cuts down on wind noise. there is an inherint danger with wearing a half helmet you only have half the protection but it is a personal choice you have to make.
ps pinion gear that is a sharp looking 71 sporty ya got there.
This is a matter of personal opinion. I have both...
Same here - full face is nice in rain and cold weather - some very interesting studies on the web in regards to helmet use, crash data, etc. Speed and b.a.l. play a huge role in injury severity, regardless of helmet use or type.
My last crash was at 25MPH and I'm convinced the 1/2 helmet I was wearing kept me from gettinga concusion on impact with the side of the ditch I landed in. It did how ever drive my glasses down on the bridge of my nose, causing a reallymean scar on an already scary mug...
