2013 dyna....Progressive 970 Piggybacks Vs. Works Performance custom shocks, any thoughts?
For 1000 $ I would hope these are good shocks, but you can get ohlins for hundreds less. And you will get big discounts from motorcycle metal on them. Howard has his own custom built shocks now ( I believe) and he is a site sponsor , so I would give him a call for his opinion and what he has to offer, including hdf member discounts. Others have mentioned ricors and they must be great shocks too, every supplier out there will push for his stock to roll out first. but works and progressives are out of the box shocks if they don't quite fit your needs it's tough but you bought 'em. Good luck.
I agree with the comment from maddghost about Ohlins shocks and Motorcycle Metal. Howard at MM is very knowledgeable on Harley suspension. Best money I spent was on the suspension both front/rear and my Mustang seat was well-worth its cost too.
Crazy, since I ride fairly aggressive but also do a lot of tour cruising I was sorta confused which to go with. A simple contact with Brian at Ricor solved the mystery as Brian recommended the Cruiser valving with specific springs to accommodate which is likely why mine took almost a month to deliver.
That is one advantage to shocks like Ricors over the off the shelf types.

I went with a slightly taller shock. 12.6" . Too high and the jack stand height may be a problem.
Higher equals better handling in the curves without dragging anything.
The Works streettrackers have plenty of adjustment.

Interesting. That sounds a lot like my riding style.

I just installed my JRI piggybacks from Howard of Motorcycle Metal. He had a special offer on these recently which made it an easy decision. They are the real deal. They out shine the stock FXDXT shocks in every way, and as many know, the DX had HD's premium adjustable rebound shock. (not saying much).
Others like ohlins, ricor etc might be worthy options too but these JRI's are definitely top quality.
I know Hogpro has the same set on his T-Sport and really likes them.

Works are not off the shelf, they build them to order based on your weight and riding style and you have your choice of lengths. They shipped mine out less than 3 weeks after ordering which isn't bad IMO. And at $510 they are very competitively priced considering the quality.
