Just got my light yesterday and got it installed. As was previously mentioned, no instructions. Had to modify the housing slightly. The main harness plug would not reach the socket through the slot built in to the back of the housing, so I cut a new slot on the other side with a Dremel. Worked fine after that. Definitely better looking than the stock taillight.
When I printed off the HD instructions it mentions that you have to cut the cable ties and pull the wiring 3 inches closer to the light so it reaches.
I was wondering WTF too...until I read.
i installed this light last week and notice that the red "electical" dummy light on gauge comes on randomly i assume due to a different electrical load from led's. this is on a 13 fat bob btw. anyone else have this issue?

That's not normal.
Is it possible you pinched something when hooking up/moving the harness? or placing the harness back under the seat?
I'm assuming that the 13's wouldn't be any different than the other years.
on my 13 it has a circuit board that everything plugs into right behind the light. nothing pinched, was all very simple plug and play setup with no need to even go under seat for any plugs...

I purchased one of these too. I have a 2012 fat bob and that light did come on and go off. I also did a micro tuner at the same time, so i though that the tuner might be the problem. The light works fine. No pinched wires

It's the Body Control Module thinking that the brake light is malfunctioning. It does something similar when you switch to LED turnsignals. Essentially, the flashing light is warning you to monitor for something malfunctioning.
I wonder if adding a resistor will fix the problem, as it will draw more current and appear like the standard halogen bulb. Anyone have any thoughts?
I like the look of this light a lot. The ebay listing shows this light for 2008-2011. Any dissatisfied customers who have bikes in that range (i.e. not the 2012/2013 bikes with the dummy dash light coming on)?
Also, has anyone verified whether these are the exact same lights as the HD ones? Seems odd to me that there would be multiple manufacturers of what look to be identical lights. EBay price including shipping is less than half the HD price which doesn't include shipping. Seems too good of a deal unless it's not the exact light. I'm not at all familiar with HD accessories or how often objectively lesser quality copies are put out.
