I'm replacing all cables, does anyone have any tricks on removing the throttle/Idle cables from the housing..It looks like I need to remove the little ring around the tip that holds it in but it's not that easy
Its funny you post this because I was just going through the same exact problem with my cables like 5 minutes ago. I couldn't get them to come out so I just left them in the housing. I ordered new switches so I don't need to get them out. Pissed me off like no other though!!!
The service manual says to put a drop of oil on the inside (where the little clips are) and pull with a rocking motion and they should pop out. You don't have to remove the clip.
I found that using a right angle pick (like a dental tool) works pretty good to get them out. Be careful they're really easy to lose in the process (I usually get a couple extras beforehand). To put them back on use a really small standard screwdriver to seat them in place.
You have to loosen the cables all the way loose, then pull the brake lever and place a spacer between the brake and the housing in order not to snap the end off of the little micro switch, because then you will have a whole new can of worms to deal with. remove the throttle grip housing screws and pull the grip out just past the housing. then grab the cable and pull up enough slack to rotate the little brass ferrule until the cable is even with the slot on the grip and with sideways motion slide the ferrule and cable out of the grip. Be extremely careful not to loose those ferrules, cause = worms= you need to go get more from the dealer unless your real lucky and find the little bastid. It's even more tedious to put them back in after! Long nose pliers are your friend. If this don't help as danielc409 said lol = joking!
