I just purchased a 2013 super glide custom.
I am 6'2" and trying to put forward controls on it.
Having trouble deciding which ones to get. Harley shop
Is saying the factory ones are best but kuryakyn makes one also. Not sure if any other ones are better.
Is it better to remove side cover and remove shifting arm?
I'm wanting to put kuryakyn black widow pegs, shifter, and brake pads on forward controls. Any advice would be appreciated.
I would install the pegs, leaving the shaft in place for now. If after riding with them for a while, you decide the mids will never be needed, simply cut the shaft.
As for the brand of forwards, that comes down to appearance. If you want more chrome... there's plenty of aftermarket kits available.
we have factory hd forwards on the wide glide-came on it- and Kuryakyn on my super glide.
Being 6'2" you may want to consider the Kuryakyn extended reach forwards.
The standard Kuryakyn forwards are some more forward as compared to the HD units.
What I do like about the kuryakyn forwards is there is a additional adjustment on the brake rod.
I am 6'2" and I have factory Harley forward controls on my street bob and I am very comfortable. Not so far out that I feel I am over extending my legs. But go with what you like.
You may want to consider leaving the stock mid-pegs in position even after you install forwards.
I left mine in place and they are great on a long ride when I need to shift position for a while
or you want to stand up and rearrange the family jewels.
Since they fold up, they aren't in the way and you can kick them down whenever you need them.
I have HD Forward Controls on my SuperGlide. They were on it when I bought it. I purchsed the takeoff mid mounts from my HD dealer and now have pegs midand forward as well as a Highway Bar. Being able to adjust your legs forward or mid makes a big difference. When a cramp hits the leg or foot or hip you have some wiggle room.
