I think hydrographics will really take off when you can easily print custom graphics.
You can, or rather, you can have it done. But, I suppose you mean affordably.
In the aviation industry, there are at least a few companies that offer custom hydrographic printing, but the setup cost is the bitch. One part would cost almost the same as 30 or 40 parts with the same print. I'm sure the tech is advancing rapidly though.
I was this close to having hydro graphics put on one of my bass guitars. In the end, it was going to cost about $400 and I backed out.
If anybody sends parts out for hydrographics make sure the company knows what there doing and ask what types of paint and clear they use. When I started my hydrographics business to buy the film used you had to have the equipment and go through training from one of two suppliers in the US but since then the film and supplies can be bought by anyone that can pay for them and alot of new shops have poped up and are turning out some pretty crappy work alot of these shops are using spay bomb paint and clear witch doesn't hold up very well and does not look near as good as a quality automotive paint and clear. I have since sold my business so I could spend more time with my family as I was also working another job.
