I also used the Heartland tool to do a cam swap a couple of months ago and I found that the 'fingers' on the puller were a little too far apart to fit into the cam bearing, so I closed them up just a tad with a small hammer until the puller would fit into the bearing. You may or may not have to do the same tweak. Other than that, it's a great tool and makes pulling/pressing the cam bearings a fairly easy job.
Watch the excellent S&S video, use your MoCo service manual, take your time, and it will all turn out good.

thanks for the heads up on the puller. I have the s&s video downloaded already and a service manual sitting here.

I'm not scared to tear anything apart lol. When I bought my truck for 20k I had the whole motor tore apart 3 days later and now it is sitting in the driveway with tripple turbos that I built and dynoed 1117 rwhp on fuel only lol.
When I first got my bike, I thought the idea of swapping cams was silly for the every day ride...not to mention a ridiculously expensive ordeal and time without the bike. Sadly, the more I read on here, the more I want to do it. Also, now that I have the service manual and watched the video of it being done, I want to do it even more. I love the idea of a winter project of replacing it myself...it just sounds fun as hell. Good luck on ur project though...I just wouldn't do it during riding season. It's bad enough when mother nature keeps me from riding!

Ah ok. My problem is I can take stuff apart all day long but putting them back together in working order is a totally different story lol. Dang!!! What kind of truck do you have? Do you have pics of the truck?

I should be able to do the cams and start tuning it myself in a single day

Thanks now I just have to decide what to do about the speedo. Looking like a Dakota Digital Gauge is my only option but do not want to spend $400 on a speedo.
What is the general consensus on this? It says I would lose cruise and 6th gear indicator but dyna has no cruise and I must not have a 6th gear indicator because I have no idea what it is lol
from G2 - "It says I would lose cruise and 6th gear indicator but dyna has no cruise and I must not have a 6th gear indicator because I have no idea what it is lol."
The '6th gear' indicator is the little green light in the speedo that turns on when you engage top gear.
Reading the description you posted of the Dakota adjustment module I'm guessing it's not 'plug-n-play' for your year Dyna - you might have to do some cutting/splicing/soldering. Any speedo adjustments you make have to stay within the Harley specs, otherwise you could lose cruise control (which you don't have anyway) or the 6th gear indicator light.
I've read other HDF members who have used the Dakota Speedo; maybe they can give you some tips. Or you might give Dakoto Tech a call for clarification/assistance. Hope you get it worked out.
