replacing lower belt guard
For those of you with passenger pegs, how did you remove the front factory bolt on the plastic belt guard. I only have about 3/4" between the outer primary cover and the passenger peg mount which is not enough room to hardly get a wrench in. Also the bolt is recessed so I cannot get a ratchet on it either. I removed the back two with no issue and that is what the new chrome guard uses to mount.

I think I follow what you're trying to do. Try a socket attached to a 4" extension. You ought to be able to come up through the hole in the debis deflector and get at that bolt.

I don,t know if the 97 is like the 07,but on the 07 you do not remove the plastic deflector,only the two back screws. Slip the chrome one over the plastic one,clipping the overlap piece on the bottom and put the two back screws in. Hope this helps.
