I'm running a National Cycle 2Up windshield part of the time. The wind was pretty quiet yesterday and it seemed that there was no buffeting. Fine with me, but caught me by surprise. When you run your windshield do you see a similar "buffeting" effect when it is windy. I'm assuming it is not true buffeting if it doesn't happen all of the time.

Not meaning to bust your chops but dude you got this big sail attached to the front forks and you're surprised when you get a wind surge? Hell I would be surprised if you didn't feel something all the time. I have a Road Glide faring on my FXDF and even with the short windscreen I have I get at least some crosswind buffeting at times. Hell on one ride through the canyons with 40-50 MPH gusts I almost lost it several times.
My buddy was riding a Road King with the same windshield as you and it nearly tossed him off the road a few times.
I have a friend with a Gold Wing and he's told me he's gone into mild tank slappers on long hauls on windy days. Same hold true of a fellow I ride with who rides an Ultra.
A nature of the beast so to speak man.
Ride alert, expect it at any time, and you won't have a problem. Even two up with luggage you are going to experience it.
Ride safe.
Bob

Many posts on this. Ride at hwy speeds, cross your left arm horizontally across you chest, if buffeting goes away, it is buffeting. Does it change when you have a passenger with you? Do you wear different helmets?
Oh, I expect gusts and some buffeting, but it was the quiet air with no turbulence that surprised me. That was unusual for me, and so I was wondering if turbulence varies this much for the rest of you with fixed windshields. This was the same bike, same helmet, etc.
I've ridden other bikes with on the fly adjustable windshields. In the case of buffeting, you just adjust the windshield.
