Default Motherwell Solo Rack

I've been considering getting one of these racks. I've also read some posts where people talk about it damaging their fender.

My question is, what is your experience with this rack? Did your fender incur any damage? What is the weight limit on the rack? I don't really plan on carrying much.

I have this one on my bike ( chrome version ) , no damage to fender and will hold an overnight bag with 3 to 4 days worth of clothes no problem

I had one for a while, liked the look but the functionality was a bit limited due to it's size, and being mounted along the centerline it didn't feel as stable as I would have liked... No fender damage tho

Thanks guys. Did you mount it straight to the fender or did you put something under the rack before you mounted it? Like some 3M film or foam padding?

Bought one, installed it, and quickly decided I didn't feel comfortable with the way it mounted only along the centerline. It's literally collecting dust in it's box in my Pile O Discarded Parts. Drop me a line if you want it and I'll toss it in the mail. I can always use some good karma.

I was thinking about the same rack, but have changed my mind because of similar comments as mentioned here. I'm now thinking about the HD Rigid Solo Rack # 52796-09. It mounts along the sides of the fender similar to the sissy bar side plates. This was suggested by someone in a thread I started a few weeks ago “Sissy Bar or Motherwell Luggage Rack”.

Emmo, sorry I missed your thread. I wouldn't have started this one had I seen it.

I looked at that rack as well. It looks definitely be more stable. However it also looks like it will be a little harder to remove. Hmmmmm...

Thanks everyone for your input!

turbo, they make a crome one that is quick detach (Detachable Solo Rack 53511-06 -$200). Looks like it connects just like the detachable sissy bars. I think on my bike, I'd rather have the crome. However, I also don't expect to take it off, as I'm always wanting a place to attach a jacket or small bag. I think I'm either going to stay with my current seat and add a sissy bar or change to a solo seat and add the black Rigid Solo Rack. This is all good discussion though. Emmo.

I would highly recommend getting the motherwell with the wider front mount like this. Pretty solid and didn't move much and no fender damage what so ever when I had it.

How I use to take things to work. kuryakyn custom roll bag on motherwell.

I have the same one as the poster above and have been very happy with it.
