Well after the PB Blaster has had time to work and talking to a H-D wrench as to the best option I broke the SOB . I twisted the threads off the top so looks like I need a new adjuster (cable)? This cable has never been lubed I guess .

The question I have now is how did adjusting the cable ever get to adjusting the clutch basket ? I thought when I posted Slack in the cable and needs adjusted I was ok .
The internet is a good place to get a little info / help but I,m beginning to think not really .

Thanks a million

So your blaming the broken cable(today) on a misinterpretation that was resolved yesterday? Sounds like that cable needed to be replaced anyway.

I guess when people try to help out they tend cover all the bases. We obviously didn't cover how not to mar the threads or when to use apostrophes and not commas. Check the grammar in the first post, just saying. What kind of other bikes have you done the adjustment on? So, did you replace the cable too or where you able to salvage it?

I read the post on this site almost ever day . I see a lot of very spot on answers and love the info . But a lot of the time people answer a post and must not read the op question . It,s like you ask should I buy a Red Bike or a Blue one ? Some one will say Black gets dirty to fast or Like Green so buy a Green one . I ask about a problem with a Clutch Cable and it turned into how to do the Clutch Basket .

To answer Sir seniorsuperglideE8
Yes my punctuation is poor at best as is my spelling a Stroke will do that to you .
Things look right and they are wrong . But you sir were not perfect but now a perfect a$$

KEYBEAR, seniorsuperglideE8 was only trying to help you and give you some good advice, so please calm down and don't start a dog fight in here!

Proper clutch adjustment starts at the basket and after that you'd take out the slack of the cable.
Now the adjuster broke, you will have to replace the entire clutch cable.

If interested, I have some good info for you on this subject:

When installing the new clutch cable into the cover be careful not to damage the threads in the clutch release cover. Here's how I managed to get in the clutch cable without any problems:

1. I hung the clutch cable from the ceiling in my garage using a string
2. Sat underneath it with the clutch release cover between my knees
3. Grabbed the threaded end of the clutch cable, inserted the cable end into the threaded hole and positioned the cable in line with the cover
4. Once the two threaded parts get together, I first slowly turned the cable counter clockwise until I felt the threads falling together
5. From that point I slowly turned the cable's threaded end clockwise. When you don't feel any resistance you're OK!

Yes, that adjusts the slack/freeplay in the lever but to adjust the grab (engagement) point you need to adjust the basket. Its wise to adjust them both

To properly adjust the clutch you need to start at the basket, you mentioned it has 8,00 miles on it... has it ever been done?

A million welcomes

No I,m not blaming anyone for anything . If I made a mistake it was asking for a little input . I have owned 7 or 8 motorcycles in my life and have adjusted this clutch cable a lot of times and never seen one so full of rust .

Yes it did need a new cable and I had ordered a new one last week . I will install the new cable when it shows up . (still using the old one)

I really don,t think there was any misinterpretation as I did not ask anything about the clutch basket . I could not adjust it until I had some slack in the cable ? (RIGHT)

There is a lot of things I don,t know about a lot of things that I do and if I can I fix what I can myself .
