Default Installing Docking Hardware on 13 WG?

Hey guys I am new to the whole docking hardware thing. I come from the softail world and had a Deuce and was unable to do any type of mounting hardware on the back of the bike due to the design.

The wife and I got a 13 WG and I have all the parts for the backrest and detachable stuff, but looking at the instructions it says I need to remove the entire rear fender. Is this the case? How hard is it to install this stuff compared to what I see on like the 2010 stuff? I have all the tools just need to know if there is a quick and simple way to do this.

Pretty sure you need to re-locate your turn signals. There's a kit from great bike gear: http://greatbikegear.com/store/fxdwg...tion-c-24.html

I think you can do this without removing the fender but I may be wrong.

When you unbolt the oem backplate your fender will drop. I suggest doing one side at a time. Ball some rags up and place between your tire and fender. Will keep you from scratching the paint.

What all do you have? Harley kit? Not sure why it'd say to remove the fender. Couldn't you undo one turn signal, replace it with docking hardware and bolt, then do the other signal, one at a time? Or is it a wire length issue. .?

I have the relocation kit, detachable hardware kit, detachable sissy bar and pad, and all the needed parts to get it all installed. I was not sure if I needed to jack the bike up or how exactly all the bolts come out of the fender. I dont have a manual yet as its on my list of to gets. I just dont want to remove more than needed to do the job. I am not sure on wire length for the lights yet.

Do I need to remove the strut to have the plate come off or are you referring to the plate under the fender?

No. Strut doesn't come off. It's the plate inside the fender.

First off. .get the manual. It's easy to scratch the fender up doing something like this. Your current 'plate' on the inside of the fender has two pieces that go through the fender and strut. The forward one is threaded and the rear one is not. The docking kit has both of these threaded (to accept the docking bolt).

You'll need something like parchment paper, a rag, an old t-shirt etc to slip between the fender and strut while you're replacing the plate to protect the fender. You don't need a lift but if you can get the bike on a 2x4 to keep it level that would help a lot so the struts aren't cocked toward the kickstand. If I remember, once it's level and you remove one 'plate' and not the other, the fender will be drawn away from the side you're working on as it stretches as it's bolted in place. Should have plenty of clearance if you leave the left side untouched as you do the right and vice versa.

And this is why I came and asked lol. It was also about 11 at night when I was finally able to make it to the garage to look at it. I'll take another look when I get home tonight and see how it goes. Anyone with a 13 WG know if the signal wires need extended?
