the problem is if all of dyna guys show up there we will hijack the thread and start busting eachothers ***** for a few hundred posts and get the poll shut down
HD invited me into a survey group a few months ago. Out of thousands of participants, Dyna model riders represent less than 10%, Softail just over 10%, Sportdter riders about 15% and the rest are baggers (except a small percentage of trike riders.)
I don't know if the mix represents sales figures, but our 26% in the poll seems high.
Done !! So far the Dyna votes are up a bit compare to the softail !! Man there is that many people riding touring oh well I will keep my dyna any day !!

Here is my 59 year old ***' theory on why so many Touring bikes: Many guys want a Harley but the $BIG Dollar$ investment for a guy's toy is hard to explain to the significant other. When you sell her on the "dream" of touring TOGETHER on a Harley they give the OK. I think you will find many guys (like me) buy a Dyna or Softail for the second bike after the reality sets in and the wife likes short rides for breakfast or lunch.
My idea is that many start with cruisers. After time doing short trips on them they decide to upgrade (if you want to call it that) to a touring bike so they can do more miles in a more comfortable way.
This is what happen to me and some of my friends.
Rode cruisers for many many years. Got my first touring bike in 1994. Went back to cruisers in 2004. In 2007 added a touring bike.
We have 2 Dyna bikes. a super glide and wide glide. We almost have to toss a coin which Dyna we ride. I prefer the super glide, my wife prefers the Wide Glide.
This is what we ride most of the time.
When we take trips we are always on the Street Glide.
Once you get use to riding a touring bike it seems to make a change in you for some reason. I love riding our Dyna bikes but they won't hold crap and we do not like the look of saddle bags. Only one bike that may cause us a problem.
Do 800 miles on a touring bike and then do 800 miles on a Dyna and you will see why there are so many.
