WMX - My suspicion is that the seal got dislodged momentarily and allowed a little fluid to escape. There is no leak now.

matt VA - If I cannot resolve this I may be talking to you about that used caliper!

I'm going to give this another try ...

I have read a number of your posts chastising people for trying to work on their own bikes while imparting absolutely no usefull advise whatsoever. I dont really get it. Your posts serve no purpose other than to feed your own ego. Why do it? Does it make you feel good to make some one else feel like a piece of crap? Do you even ride a Harley? cause last post of yours I read, you had to sell it because you couldnt afford the payments.

Seems you have that type on every forum. They are keyboard warriors. Makes them feel good about themselves. Totally useless when it comes to adding anything constructive to a forum.

At this point the OP is looking to find what or how to get the brake to pump up and work.
it seems the caliper is not filling properly.
Bench filling can eliminate this if air is trapped in the caliper. Also the banjo fittings can trap air but usually they are just soft. If there is no fluid in the caliper you need to treat it as a new caliper which sometimes require bench filling.
I would disconnect the brake line to the caliper and use something to add fluid in the caliper (push the fluid in backwards, I use a syringe with a hose) , I usually just pull the pistons and add fluid. If it is empty and full of air you may not get fluid in there.
is the fluid passing when bleeding?

Plenty of fluid is getting through. There are no visible leaks.

I can build some pressure pumping multiple times on the lever. But it dissipates as soon as the lever is released.

We agree on the "...I dont really get it..." part. You read my post and judged it to be chastisement for working on his own bike? "Buy the service manual or take it to a pro." Good, useful advice to: either work on this critical safety system with full knowledge, or pay a pro. Don't **** it up (which he had).

You can disagree without the need to falsely accuse me. Not until OP cracked wise did I respond, in turn. A big for you.

I cracked wise - where was that exactly?

I followed the manual procedure EXACTLY and had a problem hence the post.

WTF is your problem. If you have nothing constructive to add why don't you go crap in someone else's thread or get a life?

I have found that it is really difficult to gravity bleed front brakes. I have always either had to use a mighty-vac, and slowly, carefully...patiently keep pulling fluid down using the two person method.

- person 1 holds the brake in, while person two cracks the bleeder open slightly
- once the brake lever bottoms, close the bleeder, and repeat.

Only other method that has worked for me on problem calipers...is to reverse bleed them....that is, get a big syringe and tight fitting hose, and force fluid into the bleeder valve (being careful not to push any air in too), and then forcing any air up through the lines. In this method, you would need to hold down, and tie off the brake lever through the procedure.

Have a look at this video for any tips you may find useful.

You may have a bubble still. Maybe try taking the mastercylinder off the bike and hang it above the bike overnight so there is no bends or dips in the line. Gravity over night may work the bubble out.
