It's also a fat boy with 32 deg rake compared to our 29 deg rake, which throws his riser angleback towards himabout 2 to three inches when ya get to hand grips, so he can kick his bars forward a couple inches farther than we can. A 3 degs diffrence over a 18" distance is a couple inches at least, fromthe top of the riser to the hand grips. Hope i explained this clear.. Trotter
1 1/4" 16's" on my fxdwg, mustang fastback seat, 11" rear sus. front sus 1" lower than stock. best of both worlds -attitude w/comfort whether bar hoping or touring.
ohhh and I might be pushin 6' in my stilo heels (shhhh)
IMO the 12.5"bars with a 2" riser look the best on a bob........I was always told that once you go with apes you always want taller..........I went with the 16"....1 1/4" chubbys..................I love the bars.....................I just think the 12.5 look better..............................JMO........... ................LO................................ .....
Well, I ordered the 16" x 1.25" bar setup today. Bars, SS cables and ch.controls. Gonna use my existing mirrors and signals. Also gonna throw a 2" tank lift, and braided cross-over line on. Should get them late next week. Weather out here is already starting to turn. 80 degrees plus for the next couple'a weeks. Got good rides comming up this wknd and two wknds latter. Gotta have'em on by then!
I figure, while I have the bars off, I'm gonna stiffen up my frontdampening with some heavy duty fork oil. I hear 15wt. is good for this. Do most recomend theSE fork oil or something else?
Thanks again for all your input on this. I'll post pics when done.
Oh yeah, and I guess you can call me a "Gold Card" rider, but my pneumatic tube bender, CNC machine, and plating bath are all on the fritz. Oh well, F-it!
Hello 16"'s, I just ordered some 16" 1&1/2" super chubby apes and matching risers. they have a 41" width, anyone know what size cables to use for a FXDBI (street bob)? I decided to go with the 1 1/2 inch size so it would compliment the frametube and fork size.
I am not so long and having measured it a few times I think my ape is 16 inches, maybe 14- my bike just came that way it was not my choice (but it sure influenced my purchasing decision - got to have it!!). I find that I can reach the bars OK but not the pedals. I can either sit to the left and reach the gears or shift to the right and reach the brake. In traffic whilst filtering I have learnt to wriggle in my seat to dab a bit of this and that on each pedal. On the open road I worry only about hanging onto the apes and don't worry too much about reaching the footpegs. Frankly without these quirky issues I would be bored. My focus is on some bigger apes and a longer reach to the sky.
