Hello Everyone! New to this site and have already found alot of great usefull info! Thanks!
I'm5'9" in heightand ride a 2" lowered '05 Super Glide. I'm getting ready to scrap the stock 5" rise bars and instal a set of apes. As lame as it sounds, I'm having trouble deciding whether to go with 14" or 16"? I'm leaning towards 16"ers, but wantto be as sure as possible before shelling out the cash, and time in the garage making the swap. Anyone with a similar setup have an opinion either way?
I'd suggest you go with 1 1/4 diameter 16" apes.....you can buy them on eBay with the switches and internally pre-wired for under $500 bucks. Then just get some braided lines and it will be top notch looking and professional.
Thanks for the link. I read evey word of your step by step yesterday, and am very appreciative that you took the time to do that. I plan on using it as a ref. in my bar swap. I will be watching to see how your finished project looks. Thanks again!
I'd go for 16" as it is easier to switch to shorter bars from taller incase you want to switch. I ahve wild 1 w0509's 16" apes and love them. I am 5'9" as well...
I'm 5'10" and with the 12.5 and 1 1/2" Chubby risers,My hands arestill 1" above my shoulders. I dont think I'm ticket bound but the 16"s I had were uncomfortable. 6' or taller I'd been ok. Consider your height 5'9" before ya do all the work, 2" is alot, also consider your Seat height my corbin hollywood Solo lowered me 1 1/2"lower and 1" farther back than the stock seat... Hope this helps. Trotter
Thanks! Excellent info. I have the same Corbin Hwood seet, and same 11" rear shock setup. They're pretty decent out here about ticketing. Arizona is deffinately amotorcycle friendly state, compared to CA where I was born and raised.
Believe it or not CA appears to have much looser regulations regarding handgrip height than most states.
Most states allow the handgrips to be a max of 15" above the seat. Since the seat is below the clamp point, I'd guess that 14" or 16" would technically be illegal in most states. Some states go even further and state that the hand position can not be above the shoulders.
CA allows the hands to be 6" ABOVE shoulder height.
I can't imagine that either 16" or 14" would be comfortable for you but it seems to work for anubisss -
Trotters looks just about perfect to me - but everyone has their own opinion.
you should be able to find some Wild 1 chubbys for under $200.
